During the visit, it was celebrated the adhesion of Ecuador as member number 52 of the South Centre, an international body based in Geneva that promotes the interests of developing countries in international forums. The Director of the South Centre, Martin Khor, expressed his pleasure for the adhesion of Ecuador, and he said he will serve, not only to support Ecuador and its major proposals in international organizations, but also to support the work done by the South Centre for relatively less developed countries members.
The visit to Geneva also included the presence of Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Integration, Francisco Rivadeneira, who hold additional meetings with the International Trade Centre, which aims to promote the export process, particularly from small and medium enterprises, in developing countries.
Additionally, the Chief Negotiator of the Yasuni-Initiative Team, Ivonne Baki, made major presentations of this national program, in both UNCTAD and the South Centre.
The organization of this important ministerial agenda was in charge of the missions of Ecuador to the WTO and to the UN in Geneva. On Tuesday, October 11, 2011, the Permanent Representatives, Ambassador Miguel Carbo and Ambassador Alfonso Morales, bid farewell to Minister Ricardo Patiño and his delegation, whose next destination is the city of Bern, capital of the Swiss Confederation.
