PLEASED WITH HIS VISIT TO SPAIN ECUADORIAN FOREIGN MINISTER LEFT TO ROME

001
  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration of Ecuador, Ricardo Patiño, was satisfied with the results of his two-day visit to Spain, before traveling to Rome, the second of the seven stages of his Euro-Asian tour.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, who arrived in Madrid yesterday morning, gave the media an account of his agenda in Spain that was focused, he said, on the economic problems of immigrants because of the crisis, and the environmental Yasuni-ITT initiative.

He recalled that at the working lunch on Monday, offered by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Trinidad Jimenez, she reiterated her support to the Ecuadorian proposal to keep underground 850 million barrels of oil existing in the Yasuni National Park, in exchange of a compensation from the international community for approximately 3,600 billion, equivalent to half of the resources that the country would obtain if it explodes those resources.

On the other hand, he expressed concern about the situation of Ecuadorian migrants affected by the economic crisis in Spain, he talked to Spanish authorities about it to seek a “reasonable way out” and he also recalled that one of the solutions, planned by President Rafael Correa, would be for banks to allow affected immigrants to lower their monthly payments and make a kind of rent payment to be viable.

During his visit to Madrid, the Ecuadorian Minister also attended a meeting with executives of Fair Trade Council of Spain, which was also attended by representatives of NGOs from the two countries.

He also had an intervention in the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), to invite investment in Ecuador, detailing the opportunities, advantages and assurances that the country offers, and also had a lecture on the political process in Ecuador and integration in Latin America before a large audience of diplomats, academics, politicians and representatives of culture and migration, which filled the auditorium of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).
